Mesa vs Hacienda Tent Footprint: Which Ground Cloth Fits?

Quick answer

Choose the Mesa Tent Footprint if you own a Mesa canvas tent and want a rugged canvas layer with size options; choose the Hacienda Tent Footprint if you own a Hacienda tent and want a custom-fit layer that includes a built-in doormat.

Material and weight: canvas versus custom-fit protection

The Mesa footprint is made from heavy-duty canvas, which suits the canvas construction of the Mesa tent line and handles rough, damp ground. The Hacienda footprint is described as custom-fit for the Hacienda tent and includes a doormat, but its material is not specified in the catalog, so treat canvas-level durability as unconfirmed for that model.

Weight and packed size also differ in how they are described: the Mesa footprint is listed as lightweight and packable, while the Hacienda footprint is presented around convenience and floor protection. Neither listing gives an exact packed weight, so if grams matter, check the product page before ordering.

Fit and sizing: match the footprint to the tent model

These footprints are model-specific, not universal. The Mesa footprint is custom-designed for the Mesa Canvas Tent and comes in size options, so you can match it to your tent's floor dimensions. The Hacienda footprint is designed for the Hacienda Tent, and the catalog does not list size options for it.

A footprint that is too large can collect rainwater under the tent, and one that is too small leaves floor edges exposed. That is why the tent model and size selection matter more than the material alone.

Do you need a tent footprint at all?

A footprint adds an abrasion and moisture barrier between your tent floor and the ground, which can extend the life of the floor. It is most useful on rough, rocky, or damp ground and less critical on soft forest duff or established tent pads.

A generic ground cloth can work, but a custom-fit footprint stays aligned during setup and avoids excess material sticking out past the tent edges. The trade-off is that model-specific footprints only fit the tent they were designed for.

Mesa vs Hacienda footprint trade-offs

• Material durability: The Mesa footprint uses heavy-duty canvas; the Hacienda footprint's material is not listed, so its abrasion resistance is less certain on paper. If you camp on rough ground often, favor the footprint with a stated rugged material.
• Sizing flexibility: The Mesa footprint offers size options; the Hacienda footprint is listed as custom-fit for the Hacienda Tent without size options in the catalog. Confirm your tent model and floor dimensions before ordering.
• Entry cleanliness: The Hacienda footprint includes a doormat; the Mesa footprint listing does not mention one. A doormat is a small convenience that reduces tracked-in dirt.
